So, my school (Utah College of Massage Therapy) is starting a new program on March 16 for Esthetics. "The program offers instruction in basic facials, color theory, makeup artistry, body treatments, aromatherapy, natural nails, cosmetic chemistry, and hair removal....The most in-demand spa professionals are those who are dually licensed – as Estheticians and Massage Therapists."
So, I am thinking about doing it. Yes it's more money, but I have the potential of makeing more money to. I'm not sure yet how long the program is, I've been told it's not a year, so I'm guessing probably about 8-9 months. Which means I'd probably be graduating from that program in December. Plus the bonus is that I won't have to start paying back my student loans until next year, so that would give me time to get my credit card paid off so the only thing I have to worry about is the student loans. And I'll hopefully be getting paid a lot after graduating and getting a good job somewhere. So hopefully I will be able to pay off the loans in a timely fashion.
However, on the other hand, I need a car. I can't share one with Justin. After I graduate I'll most likely be getting a job else where and I'll need some way of getting there. So...That's sort of a priority isn't it? But at the same time, being a massage therapist AND esthitician means I wouldn't have to do MT all the time. I could switch. Or I could go to school for something else. I need something else to do besides MT I think.
On the other other hand, i could probably aford to do both if I get a good $5,000 car.
I don't know. What do you guys think? I need guidance.

What I would do is wait to see where I get a job first. If it's not too far for the bus or what ever I would do that but if it's really far then I would probably get one. I'm such a penny pincher though.
I was thinking along those lines too.. and thniking you should just do what you know how to for now.. make sure you REALLY LOVE IT, which you probably already do I know.
But just make sure.. and like Britt said, if it's possible to take a bus for awhile, I'd do that before getting strapped with a payment.
But if you DID need a car.. I would get a cheeper one. I'd stick in the $3k rainge, or less even. YOu can find good deals on good running cars..
Save your money now.. get a cheep car if ya need too, and when you are REALLY LOVING what ya do and are making money...save for a year and buy it with mostly cash!
But yeah, I understand about wanting to be all you can be in the MT Field..but make sure. Like you said, you can go to school and even do something else along side being and MT and not be stuck in there all day! LOL Like, be a photgrapher on the side and do portriat shots for people!
I would definitely put the car first considering that skills are no good if you can't travel to use them. If the bus is an option, as said earlier, that's good too. If not, you've just gotta do whatcha gotta do.
On the plus side, though, the market's so bad that you'll probably be able to get a pretty decent used car for relatively cheap!
I guess I didn't answer very well about the car.. I agree that a car is important.. but yeah, if you can ride a bus or walk until the money is better.
You guys need 2 cars for sure. ;0)
